Mount Kenya is 5199m high. Its second highest mountain In Africa. It is snow-capped peaks and can be seen in miles, It has three peaks Batian 5,199m, Nelion 5,188m and points Lenana 4,985m.The forest surrounding the mountain support a large variety of wildlife such as leopards, lions, elephants, buffaloes, monkeys, antelopes, rock hyrax, zebras, elands, giant forest hogs also various species of birds like vultures, Sunbird, eagles among others.


Mt.Kenya has three main routes that penetrate the forest and the Moorland, The routes are Sirimon route, Chogoria, and Narumoru route.

 

Mount Kenya THE SIRIMON ROUTE


Mount Kenya on the dry side of the Mountain that offers some of the finest walkings climbs up through forest wide range approach of the summit. The route starts on the northwest side of the mountain near Nanyuki, access is adequate and the bunkhouse facilities are best on the side of the Mountain.

 

Though Mount Kenya summit can be reached in 4 days as per the below itinerary, we strongly recommend an overnight acclimatization at the base in Nanyuki town. This can be arranged for at an extra fee.
 

Day 1: NAIROBI/SIRIMON/JUMPER CAMP(OLD MOSES) 3-4Hrs, 9km (860m)


Depart Nairobi at 7.30 AM to Nanyuki town for lunch, taking about 4 hrs to proceed to Sirimon gate 1 hr 2,440m.
From the gate follow the track as it winds uphill through the forest which becomes heathland after about 3 hrs, About 3 1/2hrs from the gate the track veers right to Judmier camp 3,300m for dinner and overnight. Lunch(L) ,Dinner(D)
 
Day 2:JUMPER CAMP/SHIPTON CAMP 6-7 HRS (900M)
After breakfast, follow the track uphill, fork left at the junction, After 1 hr from old Moses camp, the track crosses Ontulili river, go rift contouring through Moorland and crossing Liki north and continue uphill to Mackinders valley from where the panoramic views are up to the valley towards the main peaks. Dinner and Overnight at Shipton camp (4,200m) B,L,D.

 

Day 3: SHIPTON CAMP/POINT LENANA/JUDMIER CAMP(OLD MOSES CAMP) 9-10 HRS
Leave at 3 Am up a steep stony quarry that cuts through the cliff clearing visible part towards lower hail tarns arriving Lenana at 6.30 am, taking about 3hrs. After the sunrise descends down to Shipton camp,2 hrs for breakfast and then 4 hrs down to old Moses camp for dinner and overnight. B,LD.
 
Day 4: JUDMIER CAMP/SIRIMON/NAIROBI 2-3 HRS
Afterbreakfast,walk down,2hrs through to forest clearance and connect your transport to get back to Nairobi. B, L
